Bio

I was born in Hull in the UK, the son of a serving soldier in the British Army. I moved around a lot as a child, living in rural Wales and Gibraltar before spending my teens in two housing estates on the western edge of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I spent a great deal of the 1970s watching television, reading short stories and comics, listening to music and dreaming of being someone else.

I went to art college in Manchester in 1976 and moved to London in 1980 to pursue a career in illustration. I worked as an illustrator and cartoonist for lots of newspapers and magazines over the next 20 years.

I’ve always written stories. In my teens and early twenties I wrote (or sketched out) a lot of speculative and supernatural stories (some of these would end up in the Tales of Terror series. I was first book was published in 2000.

I now live, write, draw and paint in Cambridge in the UK.
